Packing PlantRealizing an integrated pork production chain – From breeding to delivery

The establishment of our own processing and packing plant has enabled us to build a comprehensive system that integrates the entire process of pork production, from breeding to product shipment. This system is further increasing the strength of the Waton Mochibuta brand.

Increasing the strength of our brand through the establishment of our own processing and packing plant

We believe that a meat processing facility is an essential part of a livestock farming enterprise, and the establishment of a processing and packing plant that would enable us to slaughter our own pigs and to process and pack their meat without relying on intermediaries was a long-standing goal of ours. With the establishment of Shibata Packers in 2015, we realized this objective and took a further step towards our ultimate goal – the comprehensive integration of our pork production chain. We have now realized a vertically-integrated production chain in which we have complete control over the entire process, from breeding and mixing our own feeds to production management and shipment. This has further strengthened the identity of the Waton Mochibuta brand.

Waton Mochibuta may be a little more expensive than ordinary brands, but our customers recognize the difference. We remain committed to never cutting corners in providing a superior, richly-flavored pork that will continue to be our customers’ first choice despite the small extra expense.

Against the background of an industry trend towards ever-bigger farms, almost all of the farms in the Global Pig Farms group are small-scale, family-run enterprises.

For us, such small-scale farming is by no means a disadvantage. On the contrary, our development has been driven by the unique benefits of family-run operations. At the same time as realizing improvements in the management of each of our farms by ensuring that they are incorporated as businesses, analyzing management data, and applying the principle of competition between operations, we have also been able to take advantage of the spirit of cooperation that characterizes small-scale, family-run enterprises, for example by boosting the education of the next generation of farmers on individual farms through on-the-job training at other farms in the group.

The self-sufficiency ratio of Japan’s pork supply is now less than 50%, and the number of pig farms in the nation is decreasing. In order to produce safe, high-quality pork against this background, we believe that it is vital for small-scale, family-run farms to unite and develop together – this is the foundation of our enterprise at Global Pig Farms.

At Global Pig Farms, we value customer feedback. We constantly seek opinions from our customers regarding all aspects of our product, including flavor, volume per package, and the way our pork is cut. Ensuring that these opinions are heard by retailers, our processing and packing plant, and our farmers enables us to engage in a constant process of improvement.
